Mirrors are everywhere. They serve several functions depending upon the type. Do you want to know the mysteries behind mirrors?
A mirror has smooth surface that forms an image. It can be a plane or curved mirror. Plane mirror has a flat surface, while curved mirror as the name implies has curve. This curved mirror can be concave or convex. Now, take the plane, concave, and convex mirrors. How do they differ? First the plane mirror produces image that is upright and exactly the same as the actual object. Say for example you stand in front of a mirror you will see the exact reflection of yours. Second is the concave mirror in which the curve bulges inward. The image produced is upright and bigger than the actual object. If you again look at your image in the concave mirror, you will notice that you became bigger or chubbier. The third one is the convex mirror with curve that bulges outward, where in the image produced is smaller than the actual object. Again, standing in front of a convex mirror will make you look smaller than the real you. What are the uses of these mirrors?
The plane mirror is the most common since it is used widely. Even in everyday life, you use plane mirror to fix yourself. The concave mirror is commonly used by dentists in checking for their patient’s teeth. The convex mirror can be found in supermarkets and in vehicles. With the type of image it produced, it provides wider scope or area seen. That’s why it is useful in vehicles especially for rear-view mirrors.
Knowing these things can help you in driving and in your everyday living. See the importance of regular checking and maintenance for your vehicle’s mirror? If mirrors are in good condition, then you are also in good condition for driving and traveling.
